Make sure you understand the directions. No credit will be given for assignments that do not meet the requirements explained in the directions.
Do your best work. No credit will be given for work that appears sloppy or that is illegible.
Cite your evidence correctly! For example: Cite evidence you find on page 117 of Catching Fire by using (CF, 117). Cite evidence found on page 207 in The Hunger Games as (HG, 207).
Use a report cover to turn in your extra credit. You must include a cover sheet as the first page of your extra credit assignment. The cover sheet must include student name, student class period, and the name of the extra credit assignment.
Assignments are due IN HAND no later than Friday, December 9.
You may only complete ONE of the following extra credit assignments.
Complete a word map for each word. (hint: all words come from Catching Fire. Words at the beginning of the list correspond to the early chapters of the book. Words at the end of the list correspond to the later chapters of the book).
You will need to print off a word map for each vocabulary word on the list. Follow the directions included with the list of vocabulary words.
Option B: Character & Setting Organizer (45 points)
Make a map of Panem: Print a copy of the map. Locate and label each district on the map according to the clues given in the two books we’ve read so far. Next to each district’s label, include a citation as proof of evidence.
Complete the Character & Setting Organizer: Print a copy of the Character & Setting chart. Identify each district’s industry. List the tributes from each district from The Hunger Games, as well as Catching Fire. Include the page number where you found each piece of evidence.
To find out if a tribute’s name has any symbolism, look up the name in the dictionary to see if it has any significant meaning to the plot, the setting, or the characters.
Print a copy of the grammar packet. Complete the exercises in the grammar packet. Turn in the completed grammar exercises in a plastic report cover.
Schedule a time with Mrs. Williams to take the Extra Credit Grammar test prior to 12/9. You must pass the test with a 90% or better in order for the grammar packet to count as extra credit.
Option D: Narrative point of view (45 points)
Select a paragraph from The Hunger Games. Identify the paragraph from the book by writing “Compare to ______________, page _______”. The paragraph you select must be at least 150 words in length. Rewrite the entire paragraph in 3rd person limited perspective, making the appropriate changes to grammar and syntax.

Think about how the narrator’s description and makes the reader feel included in the action or not based on the narrative point of view. Write a reflection paragraph explaining how narrative point of view can change a reader’s experience with a text. Use examples from the two paragraphs to support your claim. Your reflection paragraph must be at least 150 words in length.
